A SMALL DEVICE. A DIRECT CONNECTION.

Keep your cameras local. Take your view anywhere.

Connect your local cameras to CamBackup. Use an installed desktop app or the private dashboard in your browser, with optional local recordings alongside cloud relay.

Camera → gateway on your LAN → authenticated outbound HTTPS → CamBackup live view, recording and timeline.

01

Your passwords stay home.

Discover ONVIF cameras on the same LAN, resolve a video profile or enter a direct stream URL. Camera credentials are stored privately on your gateway, not sent to the cloud.

02

Your router stays closed.

Pair with a one-time code. The gateway opens the connection outward and forwards only cameras you configure. No UPnP, inbound camera port or general network tunnel.

03

Your existing workspace.

Cameras appear in CamBackup with recording off. Preview locally, then use your account to start recording, set source-pixel masks and browse confirmed footage on the timeline.

Choose an available installer below. Version 0.2 includes guided setup and a media runtime: no developer tools, database or manual FFmpeg build. Windows setup needs Internet to install its verified media and WebView2 dependencies. The Windows installer is currently unsigned. Earlier Linux 0.1.3 archives use manual setup.

Downloads contain the compiled CamBackup app and required runtime assets. They exclude our server source, repository, credentials and source maps. Browser interface assets remain inspectable. Third-party license notices and corresponding media-runtime sources are provided separately.

Architecture builds and synthetic protocol tests do not certify a physical Raspberry Pi, every ONVIF device or proprietary mobile-app cameras. The separate Android adapter framework still needs vendor-specific acceptance.

Install. Add a camera. Choose where to record.

  1. 01

    Install once

On Windows, open the setup file and follow the installer. On Linux or a 64-bit Raspberry Pi, use the one-command installer when available. The installer detects your processor and verifies the download.

  2. 02

    Open your local workspace

Open CamBackup Gateway from your applications menu. It signs you into your private local dashboard automatically. You can also use http://127.0.0.1:8844 in a browser. For a headless Pi, use the secure SSH connection below.

  3. 03

    Discover, preview, pair

Discover ONVIF devices or add a direct network video URL. Enter camera credentials locally. Generate a pairing code, then approve that exact code in your signed-in CamBackup Gateways page within ten minutes.

  4. 04

    Choose local and cloud recording

In version 0.2, turn on Record locally for an on-device copy and choose your storage limit and retention. Start cloud recording separately in CamBackup. View local clips in the gateway and cloud footage in your account.

The desktop app and browser dashboard share your cameras, pairing and local clips on the same computer. Preview live video, discover ONVIF cameras, control forwarding and play or download local MP4 recordings. Cloud billing, account security and cloud footage stay in your CamBackup account.

Know what your device is doing.

Up to 16 configured cameras, four simultaneous cloud streams and two local previews. Forwarded video is H.264/AAC at up to 1280 pixels wide and 15 fps, with a nominal 1.2 Mbit/s video bitrate per stream. Each recording, live view or snapshot can consume a connection. Measure CPU, temperature and uplink capacity on your own device.

Version 0.2 can record up to two cameras locally through an Internet outage, while the app, disk and camera remain available. Default local storage is 10 GiB / 7 days; oldest clips are automatically deleted at either limit. Offline clips stay local and are not uploaded later. Short clip-boundary gaps and loss of an incomplete crash fragment are possible. Version 0.1.3 has no local recording.

Local live previews and recordings contain unmasked source video; local recordings also include source audio. Cloud privacy masks apply only to cloud output. Closing the desktop app stops the service it started. The Linux background service continues until stopped.
