Download and install
Open the CamBackup Gateway page and choose the current package for your device. Linux 0.2 packages include the media runtime; Windows setup downloads its required runtime. Compare the published checksum and follow the installation instructions. The Windows package is unsigned; do not bypass a security warning.
Open the private dashboard
Use the desktop launcher or open http://127.0.0.1:8844 on the device. The launcher can sign you in locally; a browser can use the generated password in the private state directory. For a headless Pi, forward that loopback port over SSH from your computer. Keep the HTTP dashboard off the public internet.
Add and test a source
Discover authorised local ONVIF devices or add a supported network source explicitly. Supply the camera credential locally and preview it. Discovery can depend on interfaces and VLAN boundaries. Local previews are source pixels and precede cloud privacy masks.
Pair and import
Get a pairing code. Sign in interactively to CamBackup, open LAN gateways and approve exactly that code. Import selected cameras, which start with recording off. Apply cloud privacy/audio settings and test live and entitled recorded output.
Choose local recording separately
Gateway 0.2 can also save local clips when you explicitly enable Record locally for a camera. Check the warning first: those clips contain unmasked source video and audio. The default limit is seven days or 10 GiB, whichever is reached first; up to two local recorders can run. Set suitable limits, then play a saved local clip. Clips stay on the device and are not uploaded after an outage.
What success looks like
The selected cloud camera receives video through the paired outbound gateway without publishing the camera service on the internet.
If it does not work
Check the local source first, then gateway power and outbound connectivity. Cloud recording needs the internet. Optional local recording needs the gateway service, camera and disk to stay available; it is not gap-free and does not backfill the cloud. If you lose gateway state, revoke the old device before pairing a replacement.
Contact CamBackup support with safe error text, time/timezone and the steps tried. Never send passwords, tokens, OTPs, recovery codes or credential-bearing camera addresses.
